Qualifications/Education

Archie Lesley Buckley was born at Charleston, South Australia on 5 May 1887. His mother died a few weeks after he was born and he was then cared for by his maternal grandparents, Johann and Agnes Weidenhofer until his father re-married. Archie was then raised with the rest of the family.

Archie married Ida Muriel Spry on 20 Sep 1911.

He worked at Swan Reach for John Prosser. The first child, Charles was born on 15 May 1914. The family then moved to Adelaide Purchasing a residence at 3 Stour St Gilberton. The remainder of the children Dulcie, Lorna and Rhonda were born in the front room of the Gilberton house.

Archie built a house at 18 Mawson St Prospect Gardens which they occupied in 1927. The family rented a house on Walkerville Road near the bridge over the River Torrens while the house was being built. Prospect Gardens was later renamed Nailsworth when a Post Office was built opposite the Nailsworth School.

In Adelaide Archie worked for Peoplestores, a department store in the eastern part of the city. The hours were long and the work included opening, closing, getting the mail etc and he continued working there for some thirty years.

Archie was only 52 when he died in 1939. He was survived by Ida who passed away in 1962.
